2015 All Boyz Fathers Day Weekend Canoe and Fishing Trip - Killarney Ontario

Nothing beats good outdoor family traditions and for my two sons Tyler and Izaak our first Fathers Day weekend trip began way back when they were in kindergarten.  We haven’t missed a year since and for more than a decade now my brothers Marcel and Paul and their sons Josh and Cody plus a couple close friends Mitch Backx and Chris Mikkelsen and their sons ... have all enjoyed a camping, canoeing, kayaking and fishing trip together on this weekend.

Fishing Lake Chautauqua - Three Times A Charm!

During the last half hour of our 4 ½ hour drive from the GTA to New York’s Lake Chautauqua my son Izaak and I were beginning to think we might not get out fishing as the constant rain, cold and wind did not look all that inviting. When we pulled into the gates at We Wan Chu Cottages, it had stopped raining and Peter, the owner was there to greet us. We would be staying in the same cottage as last year and our boat in the same slip. This would be our home away from home for the next five days and the familiarity and inviting atmosphere of this fish-friendly resort helped get us into vacation mode right away. As it was already close to suppertime, and the rain started again, we chose to just launch the bass boat, tie her up to our slip and get ready to fish the next day.

Dave Chong Lands 8.02 Pound Smallmouth Bass

On Friday Oct. 24, 2014 Dave Chong of Aurora Ontario went fishing with good friend, Steve Neveu of Cobourg. Just as they were about to take off, Dave realized he forgot his net in the back of the truck. Steve offered to grab it and quickly ran back. "There are two nets - the smaller one should be fine," Dave yelled out.  Once there Steve saw a rather big EGO net and another that was even larger.  Steve brought back the “Really Big" EGO net so Dave looked at him with a grin and asked if he thought one of them might be catching a "Really Big" fish and without hesitating, his response was "Absolutely!"
